Squid Lips

She danced it all, upon the wall, her hair, it swirled around
The boys all laughed and cheered their glass, their boots tapped on the ground

She spun with beer and yelled, "here, here!" The moon began to rise
It was only then, when the band began, I saw sadness in her eyes

Her shadow danced, I took my chance, grabbed her waist and then
The coldest moon, although 'twas June, rose higher when I began

To lead her 'stead and saw with chagrin, her shadow danced instead
of the lovely girl, whose hair did swirl, and it was I who lead

If only she could become free like her shadow upon the wall
And she'd heartily laugh and raise her glass to the realness of it all
